How much carbon does a Google search burn?

A new British ‘play’, Ten Billion, by Stephen Emmott, a Cambridge scentist (and Microsoft employee), has dusted off an old and apparently discredited claim that each Google search uses as much energy as boiling a kettle.
Amid  Emmott’s doom-laden claims that when Earth’s population reaches Ten Billion, ‘we’re all fucked’, I am curious: how much carbon DOES a Google search burn (through its gazillion servers out there somewhere).

Is it one search, one cup – or is a few click more of a tea party… or what? Where can I find this information?
