The time the news summary app Summly claims to have saved its readers in the first month of its existence.

The app was downloaded 500,000 times in four weeks and is the No 1 app in News for Apple’s App store in 28 countries, according to this post in PandoDaily.

And it’s a run by a 17-year-old who’s still in school… see my earlier blog post on this.

Nick D’Aloisio is backed by big money and big names – Ashton Kutcher, Stephen Fry, and er, Yoko Ono? News Corp is sorting something out, presumably as a shopfront for their paywalled content.

And now he’s scheming a version for iPad and deciding which other big publishers he’s ready to cut deals with. And presumably some decent UK content – it seems very US centric right now.

Sub editors, be very afraid. The algorithm is busy nibbling at your livelihood. Which is why some UX retooling could be just what the doctor ordered.
